Being Mindful about Mindfulness
“Visualize your highest self and start showing up as him/her.” – Ali Owens
Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of our thoughts, feelings, sensations and surroundings in the present moment, without judging them as good or bad.
It can help us cope with stress, improve our focus, enhance our creativity and boost our well-being.
I started practicing mindfulness a few years ago, when I was feeling overwhelmed by the demands of my job.
I was constantly multitasking, checking emails, attending meetings and working on deadlines.
I felt like I had no time for myself or for the things that mattered to me.
I was at times, anxious, irritable and exhausted.
One fine day, I decided to try a mindfulness app that a friend recommended.
It guided me through some simple exercises, such as breathing deeply, scanning my body for tension and noticing the sounds around me.
I was surprised by how calm and relaxed I felt after just 10 minutes. Infact, I fell asleep!
I decided to make it a habit and do it every day before starting work and before going to bed.
The results were amazing. I noticed that I was more focused and productive at work.
I was able to prioritize my tasks better and avoid distractions. I was also more creative and came up with new ideas and solutions.
I felt more confident and positive about myself and my work. But the benefits didn't stop there.
Mindfulness also improved my relationships with my colleagues, clients and family.
I was more attentive and empathetic to their needs and feelings.
I was able to communicate more clearly and effectively. I was also more flexible and adaptable to changes and challenges.
Most importantly it gave me time to pause and reflect on what is important to me and enabled me to take critical steps with respect to my career.
Mindfulness has changed my life for the better. It has helped me find balance, happiness and meaning in my work and in my personal life.
That's why I think it's so important for working professionals to practice mindfulness regularly.
It can help you achieve your goals, overcome obstacles and enjoy your journey.
