It's that time of the year sonny. Every tdh will be asking what is your new year resolution.
I find it a boatload of crap. Due respect to those who believe in them. Hey different folks, different strokes..
Let us dig a bit deep on the logic of me calling it whatever sweet name I call new year resolution.
Resolution by itself is flawed. Resolution implies mental fortitude , motivation, willpower.
By definition they are against how our brain is wired.
I have never seen anyone take a new year resolution that they will brush their teeth everyday.
Why is that so?.
Here comes the concept called habits. Instead of fighting uphill battles with oneself on mental reserve motivation etc, better we create, change or eliminate a habit..
As an example : I read 27 books in 2021. Read means I read cover to cover, created a brain dump and it enhanced who I am in one way or the other.
I opened 87 books to read. I am not a believer of you have to read every book you start. Quality over quantity. An ex colleague who failed at new year resolution of reading books, I will leave out the numbers for obvious reasons, asked me how do you read so many books? I use couple of techniques so that reading is a habit and not something I have to set alarms or reminders.
I read 25 pages a day. You would be amazed how as little as 25 pages a day would do to your knowledge at the end of the year.
Memory dump I create a braindump of everything I read the way I understood it. It is very important to me to do that.
I am having a conversation with the author when I read a book. I am listening, questioning so that I understand the why of what the author is portraying.
I can't suggest a better tread than Atomic habitsΒ by
James Clear to start your reading sojourn with for 2022.
